The Dispatcher

The Dispatcher

Authors note: This piece is a prediction on what I think will happen in The Dispatcher, and by doing that I will finish the story by the information that was given on the back of the book.

Do you ever wonder what it’s like to get someone you love kidnapped? Well Texas police dispatcher Ian Hunt’s does and he will do anything to get his daughter back, after he gets a couple calls from his daughter then gets sent out on a wild goose chase.

One cold rainy night Officer Ian Hunt’s is sitting at his desk when suddenly he gets a call. Who could it be? No one else is at the station but officer Ian. He answers the phone “Officer Ian what’s your emergency?” Ian asked. A little girl cries father, father. Ian Hunt’s hasn’t talk to his daughter in seven years. Seven years ago his daughter was a 4-year old child. It was kind of hard for Ian to tell if that was his daughter or not. She tried to tell him where she was but the man who kidnapped her cut the phone off.

Later that day officer Ian tracked where the call came from, the call from his daughter that is. She called from a telephone booth right outside of town on the highway. There is a diner across the street from the telephone booth. Ian went to that diner to find out if anyone noticed a young girl making a call at the telephone booth. No one noticed.  Officer Ian decides to go back to the station when he gets there the phone rings he answers the phone and immediately he heard his daughters voice. A man gets on the phone and tells Officer Ian that in order to get his daughter back he has to meet him at the telephone booth where the first call was made with one-thousand dollars in two hours. An hour later Officer Ian shows up to the telephone booth but without the money. A man pulls up to the telephone booth with a little girl with him. Immediately Officer Ian noticed the girl and tries to get her to run away. He screams for her to run. The man that kidnapped the little girl grabbed her and put her back in the car and drove off very fast.

After the man drove off with Officer Ian’s daughter, Ian ran to his car and chases the kidnapper. Based on the information given from the book the kidnapper took Ian on a wild goose chase all over town. I believe that Ian chased the kidnapper for at least five to ten-hours that day. The kidnapper crashes into two other cars. Officer Ian finally catches up with the kidnapper. But his daughter is injured. She is bleeding badly but officer Ian can’t figure out where the bleeding is coming from. They are far from a hospital and Ian has no way to contact a hospital. Ian’s daughter is now dead the kidnapper is also dead.

Officer Ian Hunt’s got his daughter back but not the way he wanted her back.

The South vs. the Stryker's

The South vs. the Stryker’s

Authors note: Most people say the climax is the most important part of a story but for every climax there is a cause for it; I feel that the cause of the event is the most important part of a story.
In The Last Full Measure, Tacy Stryker is facing the most challenging part of her life as the armies of the North and the South collide in her hometown of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She is desperately worried about her two older brother and father, who are all on the battlefield --- her father as a doctor and her brothers as soldiers.
Weeks go by without any word; she doesn’t know if her father and brothers are dead or alive. Meanwhile at home Tacy, her mother and older brother are eating dinner, in dead silence. Suddenly there was a big banging noise at the door. Her brother David jumps up quickly and goes for his gun, Tacy and her mother run down to the cellar. The banging continues! David finally opens the door. It was their oldest brother who was a soldier. He was bruised and badly hurt. “What happened to you?” David asked him as he cleaned his wounds. “They caught me and tried to kill me.” This is what he told David.
The next day David set out to find the ones that did this to their brother. He found some soldiers from the south and decided follow them. There were two guys; they noticed David following them. They didn’t have their guns with them, so they could shoot David. They turned to see David behind them and began yelling. David and the soldiers get into a quarrel. The soldiers leave, only to get their guns and more soldiers. David did not go home instead he decided to take a walk. Later that day those same soldiers spotted David walking; they rounded up two more soldiers and followed David home. About ten-minutes after David was in the house the soldiers made their entrance. Once they were in the house they ordered Tacy and her mother to make them a nice dinner and serve them. Meanwhile they have a free black living with them they tried to hide her but the soldier found her anyways. The soldiers took the free black girl; they were going to put her in slavery in the south.
Their brother getting hurt and David’s actions caused the soldiers from the south to come to their home, and basically own it for a while. After the soldiers took the little girl her mother was very upset. David realized that trying to get revenge on someone who is much stronger and he could not fight alone was a bad idea. David wanted to make things right. He got the soldiers to leave his home. Before they took the girl to the south David found her and brought her back to her mother.
As you can tell the most important part of this book was the cause.

The patriots & A Ride into Morning

The patriots & A Ride into Morning

Authors note: There are many ways that “A Ride into Morning” and “The Patriots” is different and how they are alike.
These stories are alike in many ways but they are also different in many ways.
First of all in the movie “The Patriots” the main character was Benjamin Martin. He was the father of Gabriel Martin and Thomas Martin. This movie is revolved around him and his family. In the movie it shows a story of a man fighting to help his son, after his son’s died he began to help fight for the country. Both Gabriel Martin and his brother Thomas Martin has been killed do to the war.
In the book “A Ride into Morning” the main characters were Mary Cooper and her cousin Temp Wick. “A Ride into Morning” has two main characters. Mary Cooper did not lose anyone who was very important to her, as for Temp Wick she lost her father. As you can see so far in both these stories at least one of the main characters lost someone they loved strongly.
Outside of both their homes there are people fighting. These people are fighting for the same reason, and that is for freedom from the British. Both Mary Cooper and Benjamin martin have a big family. Also both their families are involved in some way, whether it’s them that is involved or a dad, brother or son involved in the war. Even though Benjamin lost both his son’s he did not give up. As for Temp Wick, when her father died she gave up on everything.
As you can see these two stories “The patriot” and “A Ride into Morning” are more alike than they are different.
