Big Yellow Taxi vs. The Field Below

Authors note: I am writing a short response on the two poems and how they relate to each other.

In both the poems the message was don’t take anything for granted. Both the poems had a tone of depression, disappointment, and frustration. The mood of these poems is sympathetic. In the poems the author is trying to make the reader feel bad for him or her.

The reason the authors wrote these poems is because they wanted the reader to know how they were feeling. "Big Yellow Taxi", is about someone who had something that got taken away from them. The author is trying to get the point across that you should cherish what you have while you have it. The mood of the music was completely different from the poem. In the song the mood was happy.

A mother’s point of view

Author’s note: I am writing this piece on point of view.
In the book Deadly, by Julie Chibbaro. Sixteen year-old Prudence Galewski gets a job as an assistant in a science laboratory. Her mother doesn’t want her to have this job, but she will support her daughter in her decisions. Although she will support Prudence she tries to convince her that this is not the type of job she should have. Her mother believes that this is a man’s job. Prudence and her mother find out that this job will interfere with school hours.

They decide to talk to Prudence teacher and ask her if Prudence could take night classes. Her teacher also does not want prudence to take the job. She told Prudence that if she takes this job she will no longer be able to attend to her school. Prudence decided to take the job.

How would you feel if your daughter got a job you believe is a man’s job? Not only did Prudence have a job that was not expected for a young lady to have, she also dropped out of school. In this book her mother makes it perfectly clear that she doesn’t want her daughter to have this job. When Prudence came home and told her mother that she got a job in a laboratory her mother was described as very angry.

Her mother argued with her to not take this job. Prudence and her mother live together and they are all each other have and if prudence takes this job she will be away from her mother a lot. Because Prudence mother doesn’t have anyone but Prudence she feels alone now that her daughter is taking on a full time job.

Prudence mother wants her to have a job that is expectable for a young lady in that time period.

4“This is Just to Say” parodies

4“This is Just to Say” parodies

This poem relates to the book deadly, by Julie Chibbaro.
The person speaking in this poem is a girl whose mother
thinks she shouldn’t take a job in a laboratory, because it’s
believed to be a man’s job. The tone in this poem is sarcastic.
The mood starts a little happy then it sounds like she is upset.

I have a
Job
a job you
didn’t want me
to have

a job
in which
you believe
a man
should have

please
forgive me
it is wonderful
very easy
and so fun.
