Authors note: This piece is a character discription on a character in the book "Deadly", by Julie Chibbaro.
In the book "Deadly" by Julie Chibbaro, Prudence is the main character. Other than she is Jewish, she is a lot like Melinda in the book "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson, Prudence is sixteen years old. She’s tall like a tree and skinny like a twig. Her hair is long, black and silky as if it’s a black silky curtain attached to her head. Her lips thin as paper, her smile brighter than the sun. She is very smart; if you ever met her you would say she was the smartest girl in the world.

Shortly in her young life her brother died and her father went to war. Now all she has is her mother. She assists her mother as a midwife. Prudence wants to know more about the human body and why people get sick and what makes them ill. She finds a job as a typist and applied for the job. She types faster than a jackrabbit. As she went to the interview for her job she saw the laboratory and she was very interested. She grew to amazement in everything the men were using in the laboratory. Her eyes sparkled with fascination as she looked through the microscope. All the tiny cells she saw made her want this job more than a baby needs its mother.
Her mother was very disappointed Prudence wanted a man’s job. The job prudence wants is too smart for the brain of a woman. That is what the people in her town believe. But Prudence doesn’t believe that she believes that she can do great with job.
