Butterfly, Butterfly

Butterfly, Butterfly!

Butterfly, butterfly,
Oh butterfly,
Why do you fly so high?
Like a bird in the sky.
Teach me how to fly
Butterfly, butterfly,
So free in the bright sky
So high.
Butterfly, butterfly
You lie on my thigh
Then you suddenly die.

Symbolism

Authors note: I am writing a short response of symbolism on the story "The Lottery", by Shirley Jackson.

Symbolism is a way to represent something. In this case symbolism is representing something in the story "The Lottery". In this short story there is a lot of signs of symbolism. Some signs that I found are rocks, the black box, the paper/ticket, big rock, lottery, and the black dot. Symbolism is also a way to help a person understand a story better.

The big rock shows a symbolism of friendship. This shows friendship because in this story the lady was being stoned. Her best friend grabbed the biggest rock she saw to through at her. Yes, that may sound like she isn't a very good friend right. Why do you think she grabbed the biggest rock? Well a reason she grabbed the biggest one is because she didn’t want her best friend to go through a long and hurting death. She wanted to save her friend the suffering of standing there getting hit by lots of rocks. So she threw the biggest one to kill her faster.

In conclusion, this story shows very good symbolism. Also the symbolism in this story can help you understand the story more.

The Choices we make

The Choices we make

Author’s note: This is a response essay to a quote made from the book “Crossed”, by Ally Condie. This quote was said by Cassia in the book when she was telling the reader about a gift she received from her mother.

“In the end you can’t always choose what to keep. You can only choose how you let it go.” Have you ever had something you really loved but you couldn’t keep it? Some people have things they feel like they need to keep. Well in this story Cassia has something that was given to her from her mother. Where Cassia lives she can’t keep anything and everything that Cassia has gets taken from her unless she hides it.

First, Cassia is a quite person she likes to keep to herself. Also Cassia is missing her best friend; this is a reason why she keeps to herself. She is also a very curious person. Cassia is very curious about the mountains and lakes, anytime she hears an official talking about either one she listens very closely and tries to get as much information as possible. What does this quote mean to you? I think this quote is telling the reader that life isn’t fair; you can’t choose what you can or cannot keep in life all you can do is choose how you will let it go.

Secondly, a reason Cassia said this is because she was planning to run away but she could only take very little things with her. She wanted to take a gift her mother gave to her when she was younger but that meant she wouldn’t have enough room to bring water and food to last her. Cassie also had to bring along a map and compass. She had to pack light because if she took a lot of things with her she would never get away.

In conclusion, people have to make choices they don’t want to make. Sometimes people have to get rid of things they love and cherish to survive. For example Cassia received a gift from her mother but she couldn’t keep it in order to survive.

Katsa's Point of View

Katsa’s Viewpoint

Authors note: This is an essay about the point of view of Katsa from the book Graceling, explaining the event where Katsa had to kill a king.

In the book Graceling, many huge events occur. But the event I found the most interesting and most important is the event where Katsa was forced to kill a king. This book is written in Katsa’s point of view. From her perspective a lot of events and characters are described in a way of very emotional, painful, sad, happy, exciting and adventurist.

First, one way that Katsa’s point of view influences the reader’s interpretation is how her point of view of the sorrow she felt as she was forced to kill the king. It all happened so fast, Katsa came home one day. Her uncle who is King Randa called her to him. He sent her to go kill another king. She didn’t want to do it, but she had no choice she was ordered too. How do you think she felt when she had to kill the King? How would you feel if you were forced to kill another person?

Secondly, this influences me because it tells me that in some places people are forced to do things they don’t want to do. The details in this story are very well explained especially this scene. A reason why I think this scene is more detailed than any other scene is because in this scene she states that she tries to put on a normal face so that no one would noticed that she doesn’t want to be doing this. I think that the reader would feel that this is a very good book. I also think that the reader’s feelings about Katsa would be that she is a very nice and caring person. I also think that the reader would think she doesn’t like the job she has as being King Randa’s hit man.

Finally, if this book Graceling, was written in the point of view of King Randa, I think the reader would feel different about the book. The reason I think the reader would feel different about this book is because I think the book would show more selfishness also the book wouldn’t have as much detailed scenes and no emotion.

In conclusion, this event relates to slavery. This relates to slavery because people had to do what their leader told them to do, weather they wanted to do it or not; weather it was good or bad they had no choice like Katsa she had no choice.

Types of Viruses & What causes them

Types of Viruses & What causes them

Author’s note: This is a research essay on viruses. I will be writing about types of viruses and what causes them.

Not all viruses are harmful, some viruses can be helpful. Most viruses are harmful to the human body but can be helpful to animals or even plants. They can be harmful and helpful in many ways.

What is a virus? A virus is a small infection that reproduces only inside living cells of organisms. Viruses infect every and all types of organisms (Worden). A virus can’t move by its self, but it can reach a host’s (an organism that harbors a parasite). Also virus particles consist of three parts: molecules, protein coat; genetic material made from DNA. What are types of viruses? Some types of viruses are chickenpox, common cold, and measles.

First, chickenpox is a very contagious disease caused by varicella zoster virus. It also causes a rash of vesicles on the face and body. The chicken pox last up to two to three weeks (Sears). Also chickenpox can be severe in infants and adults but in children they may be mild. This virus can spread through direct touch or through the air (Sears). Some characteristic are itchyness of the skin, rash, bumps, and blisters. Normally the first sign of chickenpox is a rash. It is also never to be known of a person getting chickenpox more than once. A cure for servere chickenpox is varicella vaccine.

Likewise, the measles are known to cause a rash on the body and or face. The measles is a very infectious illness caused by a viral infection which is caused by rubeola virus (Hill). Like chickenpox measles are one of the most contagious viral diseases. Measles are most dangerous in children. This virus is spread through the air. Some symptoms are a fever at about 39°C, coughing, sore throat (Hill). A way to cure measles is to stay in bed in a cold room while taking medication for coughing.

Finally, the common cold is an illness caused by virus infection found in the nose. Also colds engage in the ears, bronchial tubes, and sinuses. The common cold last from three to about seven days (Gwaltney). This cold may last longer in elderly people, people with poor health, and children. Symptoms of the common cold are sneezing, runny nose, coughing, head ach, and scratchy throat. The common cold is caused by many different viruses. This viruses the common cold is one of the most well known viruses like the chickenpox. The common cold is also a contagious cold like chickenpox, and measles. This virus is spread through the air, coughing, and sneezing.

In conclusion, not all viruses are harmful, some viruses can be helpful. One way viruses can be harmful is that they could cause cancer and other very dangerous dieses. Viruses can also have a huge effect on some tissues in the body. They can also infect tissues and organelles (Abedon). As I said before not all viruses are harmful they can also be helpful. Also viruses can be helpful to some animals. The reason they are helpful to animals is because some animals can’t reproduce without having a type of virus. For example sheep can’t reproduce unless they have a virus (Gwaltney).

Big Yellow Taxi vs. The Field Below

Authors note: I am writing a short response on the two poems and how they relate to each other.

In both the poems the message was don’t take anything for granted. Both the poems had a tone of depression, disappointment, and frustration. The mood of these poems is sympathetic. In the poems the author is trying to make the reader feel bad for him or her.

The reason the authors wrote these poems is because they wanted the reader to know how they were feeling. "Big Yellow Taxi", is about someone who had something that got taken away from them. The author is trying to get the point across that you should cherish what you have while you have it. The mood of the music was completely different from the poem. In the song the mood was happy.
